Aethis

How It Works

1

Invite Your Client

Open a matter and send your client a secure link to start the process.

2

Client Provides Information

Clients interact with Aethis at their convenience using text, voice and document upload. The system adapts each step based on the information provided, checks eligibility against the applicable legal requirements, and highlights any gaps for solicitor review.

3

Review and Submit

The solicitor reviews the application and makes any necessary changes. Once complete, the information is uploaded directly into the Home Office online form, ready for submission.

The Technology Behind Aethis

Aethis is built on a different foundation to most AI systems used in legal workflows.

Rather than relying on probabilistic text generation alone, the platform combines modern language models with formal decision logic derived from explicit rules and legal criteria. This ensures that eligibility and compliance decisions are consistent, explainable, and defensible.

Built on proven foundations

At its core, Aethis uses a class of formal mathematical techniques that have been used for decades in safety-critical fields such as aerospace, satellite systems, and microprocessor design. These approaches are designed for environments where complex rules must be expressed precisely, checked for internal consistency, and evaluated deterministically.

In Aethis, these techniques are used to model legal eligibility and regulatory requirements in a way that can be examined, tested, and relied upon.

As legislation, case law, and Home Office guidance evolve, our legal and technical teams work together to update the underlying rules — ensuring the system stays current without requiring solicitors to track every change themselves.

How it comes together

What makes Aethis possible now is the maturity of modern language models.

Aethis uses a neuro-symbolic approach, where formal decision logic defines what is legally possible, and language models are used to support interaction, explanation, and evidence gathering. AI guides users through the process, asks the right questions, and explains outcomes in plain English, but it is never allowed to invent eligibility or override the underlying rules.

This separation ensures that conversational AI enhances the legal process without introducing uncertainty into legal determinations.

Why this matters in practice

For solicitors, this means:

  • The same facts always produce the same result
  • Reasoning can be traced back to explicit criteria
  • AI handles the mechanical complexity while you retain decision authority
  • The system behaves predictably in regulated environments

Aethis is designed to bring the rigour of formal systems together with the usability of modern AI, creating technology that fits naturally into professional legal practice.

Designed to integrate

Aethis works standalone today, with API and case management integrations coming soon. Bespoke connections available on request.
